The Perpetual Seminar Room

Welcome to the Perpetual Seminar, an ever-widening circle of graduate students interested in keeping in touch after leaving SFAI. Ostensibly, one of the reasons to go to graduate school is to find a life-long, supportive community of critically engaged and active artists. However, it has become increasingly evident that to maintain our connections to one another after graduation will require a conscientious effort on our part.

The home page will simply contain a menu-list of names, each linked to the individual artist's page. (a "New!" symbol will appear next to the names of anyone making recent submissions). In a addition there will be a running bulletin board for "general announcements")

Within this site, as Perpetual Seminarians, each of you can do the following:

  • post images of recent or proposed works (or anything of interest)
  • inform The Seminar of your upcoming exhibitions, or any news you'd like to share with the rest of us (awards, grants, etc.)
  • share information about career opportunities (teaching positions, grants, live/work spaces etc.)
  • offer criticism and ask questions about other Seminarians work
  • recommend/review exhibitions or performances worth seeing
  • exchange e-mails, URLS, and update addresses
  •

The site, and the process to add to it, is simple. Whatever you send me I'll upload to your page within the site,. Every page will have hot-linked e-mail so that we can communicate individually with one another, and any e-mails sent to me at seminar@synapse-archive.com will be automatically forwarded to everyone on the list.

For now, the site-plan is primitive. Because its function is mostly internal and informational (i.e. not as a vehicle for publicity or exposure) I am not expending too much effort on its design and layout. Nonetheless, I welcome suggestions for improvement. The possibilities for expanding the number of SFAI grads on the list, and for enhancing the versatility of the Seminar Room, are wide-open. If enough people participate, I will maintain the site indefinitely.

To get started, I can begin building your individual pages if you send me the following (ax@synapse-archive.com):
